Quang Duong's Return to Professional Pickleball

Quang Duong, recognized as Asia's leading pickleball player according to the DUPR rankings, has officially signed a professional contract with the APP Tour as of March 4. This development concludes his nine-month absence from the American professional pickleball scene, following the termination of his contract with the PPA Tour in 2025 due to his participation in an unsanctioned tournament in Vietnam. The APP Tour announced this exciting news on their Instagram, where they referred to Duong as 'Asia’s top player' and highlighted his reputation as 'one of the most electric players in international pickleball.'

For the APP Tour, acquiring Duong is a significant achievement, especially as they compete with the PPA Tour for dominance in the global pickleball arena. His addition not only enhances the APP Tour's lineup but also brings considerable star power to their events.

Duong joins a growing list of elite pickleball athletes who have signed with the APP Tour, including notable players like Harsh Mehta from India, Sofia Sewing, Megan Fudge, and others.

Return to Familiar Grounds

Duong's signing can be seen as a return to a familiar environment. He first made his mark in the professional pickleball world in 2023 by participating in APP Tour events, where his skills quickly became apparent. His standout performance at the 2023 APP Houston Open, where he defeated top competitors like Christopher Haworth and Jaume Martinez Vich to reach the finals, solidified his status as a promising talent.

Later that year, he transitioned to the PPA Tour, where he continued to rise through the ranks, earning a reputation as a dynamic player. A highlight of his time with the PPA Tour was winning the gold medal in Men's Doubles at the Bristol Open in August 2024, alongside partner Christian Alshon, which further established him on the international stage. During his tenure, he achieved a ranking as high as No. 6 in men's singles.

However, his journey with the PPA Tour ended unexpectedly in early 2025 when his contract was terminated due to violations. Despite this setback, Duong remained a notable figure in the sport, spending the remainder of 2025 as a free agent. His recent return to the APP Tour marks a new chapter in his career, reconnecting him with the circuit that initially propelled him into the spotlight. Last season, while a free agent, he played in the Indian Pickleball League, leading the Mumbai Smashers to victory.
