PV Sindhu Triumphs at Japan Open, Ends Title Drought
Historic Victory for PV Sindhu
PV Sindhu has made history by clinching her first Japan Open title, defeating the reigning three-time World Champion Akane Yamaguchi with a score of 21-17, 21-17 in the final match. This victory marks her first S750+ title and breaks a 21-month period without a championship win. The last time the prominent Indian badminton player secured a World Tour title was at the Syed Modi International in 2024. Additionally, at 31 years old, she has now surpassed Tai Tzu Ying, who was the oldest WS Super 750 champion at 29 years and six months after winning the India Open 24. Sindhu's remarkable journey to the final included a victory over World No. 4 Chen Yufei from China, who had to retire due to a hamstring injury. Furthermore, Sindhu benefited from a walkover in the quarterfinals when her opponent withdrew from the competition. More updates to come...
