Indian Badminton Stars Return to Action

New Delhi [India] - Olympic medalist PV Sindhu, along with Asian Games doubles champions Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, are gearing up to compete at the 2026 Singapore Badminton Open, which kicks off on Tuesday.

After opting out of last week's Malaysia Masters, both Sindhu and the Sat-Chi duo are set to return to the BWF Super 750 event at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, where they will vie for essential ranking points, according to Olympics.com.

Sindhu will lead a three-member Indian team in the women's singles main draw, which also includes Unnati Hooda and Malvika Bansod.

Having secured only one semi-final appearance this season, Sindhu faces a tough opening match against Indonesia's world No. 6, Putri Kusuma Wardani, who has a 3-2 edge in their previous encounters.

In 2022, Sindhu clinched the Singapore Badminton Open title when it was classified as a Super 500 event.

After early exits in Malaysia, Lakshya Sen and HS Prannoy, both semi-finalists for Paris 2024, will aim for a stronger performance in Singapore. Kidambi Srikanth and Ayush Shetty are also back in the Indian lineup after missing the Malaysia competition.

In men's doubles, fourth seeds Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will lead India's efforts, joined by the pair of MR Arjun and Hariharan Amsakarunan.

In women's doubles, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand are currently sidelined due to injury, leaving Kavipriya Selvam and Simran Singhi to lead the Indian campaign.

Additionally, Rutaparna Panda/Swetaparna Panda and Ashwini Bhat K/Shikha Gautam are also listed to compete in the Singapore Open.

In mixed doubles, Olympian Tanisha Crasto, Dhruv Kapila, and the pairs of Rohan Kapoor/Ruthvika Shivani Gadde will represent India.
