In a remarkable performance, India's PV Sindhu secured her spot in the women's singles quarterfinals at the Asian Games 2026 by defeating Japan's Tomoka Miyazaki in straight sets at the Ichinomiya City Municipal Gymnasium on Saturday.

Sindhu showcased her skills with a convincing 21-9, 21-13 victory over Miyazaki, completing the match in just 41 minutes. She dominated the first game, finishing it 21-9 in 18 minutes, and maintained her focus in the second game to secure another solid win. Throughout the match, Sindhu controlled the pace, preventing Miyazaki from gaining any momentum and ensuring her advancement to the quarterfinals.

Ayush Shetty Exits in Quarterfinals

On the other hand, India's Ayush Shetty faced a tough challenge in the men's singles quarterfinals, where he was defeated by Chou Tien-Chen from Chinese Taipei.

Shetty lost the first game 16-21 but made a strong comeback to win the second game 21-19, leveling the match. However, Chou managed to maintain his composure in the final game, winning 21-17 and securing a 2-1 victory. This loss marked the end of Shetty's journey in the Asian Games, while Sindhu now prepares for her quarterfinal match.

India's Kabaddi Teams Claim Double Gold

Earlier in the day, India achieved a remarkable feat in kabaddi at the Asian Games 2026, with both the women's and men's teams triumphing over Iran in tightly contested finals held at the Tokai Citizen Gymnasium.

The women's team narrowly defeated Iran 37-34, successfully defending their title, while the men's team staged a comeback in the second half to win 40-34, marking their ninth gold medal in this sport at the Asian Games.
