Historic Achievement for Punjab Badminton

In a remarkable feat, badminton players from Punjab secured a total of 10 medals at the North Zone Badminton Championship held in Bhilwara, Rajasthan, on Sunday. This impressive tally included four gold, three silver, and three bronze medals, marking a historic first for the state in this championship's history, as noted by Ritin Khanna, the secretary of the Punjab Badminton Association.

This outstanding performance not only showcases the talent of the players but also grants the medalists direct qualification for the upcoming Junior and Senior National Badminton Championships based on their achievements.

In the men's singles category, Jagsher Singh Khangura from Patiala clinched the gold medal, while Viren Seth from Jalandhar triumphed in the junior boys' singles. Additionally, Mehvish Kaur from Gurdaspur took home the title in the junior girls' singles.

Viren Seth further contributed to Punjab's success by teaming up with Aditya Sharma from Ludhiana to secure gold in the junior boys' doubles, rounding off the state's four-gold medal haul.

Punjab also earned three silver medals, with Mehvish Kaur finishing as the runner-up in the women's singles. Ludhiana's duo of Arryan and Syamprasad claimed silver in the men's doubles, while Sangrur's Seeza and Amritsar's Samaira were runners-up in the girls' doubles.

The state added three bronze medals to its tally, with Gursimrat Kaur Chahal from Ludhiana finishing third in the women's singles and Divyam Sachdeva from Jalandhar winning bronze in the boys' singles. Additionally, Jalandhar's Smarth Bhardwaj and Seeza secured bronze in the mixed doubles.

Khanna emphasized that this achievement underscores the growing depth of badminton talent in Punjab, highlighting the strong performances of players at both national and international levels over the past two years, including those from rural areas.

This success follows closely on the heels of Tanvi Sharma from Punjab winning her first BWF World Tour women's singles title at the Taipei Open Super 300.

Moreover, Jalandhar's Inayat Gulati is currently representing India at the Junior Asia Badminton Championship in China, further showcasing Punjab's international presence in the sport.
