Match Highlights: Punjab Kings vs. Mumbai Indians

Mumbai: In a thrilling encounter at the Wankhede Stadium, Punjab Kings secured a convincing seven-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians in Match 24 of the IPL 2026, thanks to a remarkable 139-run partnership between Prabhsimran Singh and Shreyas Iyer, both of whom scored half-centuries for the second consecutive match.

Iyer made a strategic decision to bowl first, taking advantage of a pitch that offered some assistance to fast bowlers. With Rohit Sharma sidelined due to a hamstring injury, Quinton de Kock stepped up as an opener, scoring an impressive 112 not out off 60 balls, while Naman Dhir added 50 runs, helping Mumbai reach 195/6 after a shaky start at 12/2.

However, the duo of Prabhsimran and Iyer showcased their batting prowess, leading PBKS to a successful chase of 198 runs in just 16.3 overs. Prabhsimran scored an unbeaten 80 off 39 balls, while Iyer contributed 66 off 35, both players continuing their excellent form from the previous match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

This victory propelled PBKS to the top of the points table with nine points, while Mumbai Indians remained at the bottom with only two points from one win and four losses.

Despite a challenging target, Punjab Kings started their innings with Priyansh Arya (15) and Cooper Connolly (17), but it was Prabhsimran and Iyer's partnership that turned the game around. They capitalized on Mumbai's fielding errors, including three dropped catches, to secure a comfortable win.

Prabhsimran's aggressive batting was on full display as he struck boundaries all around the ground, reaching his fifty in just 23 balls. Iyer, who also took a spectacular catch to dismiss Hardik Pandya, played a crucial role in the chase, hitting five fours and four sixes.

Earlier, Mumbai's innings was anchored by De Kock, who scored a century in his first match of the season, but the team's poor start and fielding lapses ultimately cost them the game.

Mumbai Indians 195/6 in 20 overs (Quinton de Kock 112 not out, Naman Dhir 50; Arshdeep Singh 3-22) lost to Punjab Kings 198/3 in 16.3 overs (Prabhsimran Singh 80 not out, Shreyas Iyer 66; AM Ghazanfar 2-31) by seven wickets.
