Musheer Khan, making his debut, struggled at the crease but managed to take a wicket. The team's performance marked the lowest overs batted in IPL playoff history. Punjab Kings' Disappointing IPL Playoff Return: A Debut to Forget for Musheer Khan

Punjab Kings' Playoff Dreams Dashed

After an 11-year hiatus, Punjab Kings made a much-anticipated return to the IPL playoffs, but their plans quickly unraveled. In the first qualifier against RCB at home, the team delivered a dismal batting performance. As the innings neared its end, they introduced Musheer Khan, the younger brother of Sarfaraz Khan, in hopes of sparking a turnaround. Unfortunately, the match at Mullanpur did not go as envisioned.

Facing a challenging situation, coach Ricky Ponting opted to send Musheer Khan as an impact substitute. The 20-year-old had previously showcased his talent, notably during India's U-19 World Cup victory and a century in the Ranji Trophy final for Mumbai in the 2023/24 season.

However, Musheer's debut was far from ideal. He faced only a few deliveries before being dismissed LBW by Suyash Sharma. Despite opting for a review, the decision stood. Although his batting performance was disappointing, he managed to claim a wicket by bowling out Mayank Agarwal.

Following Musheer's exit, the rest of the Punjab batting lineup collapsed, resulting in a paltry total of 101 runs in just 14.1 overs. This marked the fewest overs batted by any team in an IPL playoff match and tied for the third-lowest score in knockout cricket history.

Despite a rocky start to his IPL journey, Musheer Khan aims to recover and establish his own legacy. His brother, Sarfaraz Khan, made his IPL debut for RCB in 2015 as the youngest player at that time. Sarfaraz later played for Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals but went unsold in the IPL 2025 Auction, now focusing on red-ball cricket.
