Pukhraj Singh Gill's Confidence in His Game

Indian golfer Pukhraj Singh Gill expressed that he believes his performance is at its peak, feeling very positive about the future of golf in India as the Los Angeles Olympics 2028 approaches. After winning the 2025 IGPL Order of Merit and the 2026 Asian Development Tour (ADT) Players Championship in Kuala Lumpur earlier this year, he shared insights about his current form.

Current Performance and Self-Belief

In a recent interview, he stated, "This is the best my form has ever been. Since winning the IGPL Order of Merit last year and achieving my first professional victory, I have felt very confident. I started this year strongly, performing well in IGPL events and on the Asian tour, and winning my second ADT event has boosted my confidence significantly."

A Lifelong Passion for Golf

At 29, Pukhraj, who turned professional in 2018, revealed that his love for golf began at a young age. "I started competing seriously at the national junior level around eight or nine years old. Since then, I've progressed through junior, sub-junior, and senior levels, representing India both nationally and internationally. Golf has been my life's purpose for the past 10-15 years, and achieving success in the sport is incredibly fulfilling for me."

Influences from Indian Golf Legends

Pukhraj draws inspiration from renowned golfers like Jeev Milkha Singh, who paved the way for players from his region. He noted, "Jeev sir, Gaganjeet Bhullar, and Anirban Lahiri have shown that success in golf is possible. My peer, Shubhankar Sharma, has also excelled on the DP World Tour. Their achievements provide reassurance and confidence, making it easier for me to pursue my goals."

Yuvraj Singh's Impact on Golf Popularity

Discussing the role of IGPL co-founder Yuvraj Singh, Pukhraj mentioned that Singh's involvement has helped dispel the notion that golf is an exclusive sport. "With many former athletes, including cricketers and tennis players like Leander Paes, taking an interest in golf, we are reaching a broader audience. This visibility is crucial for attracting new fans and participants to the sport."

Golf Becoming a Viable Career Option

Pukhraj believes that golf is increasingly being recognized as a legitimate career choice alongside mainstream sports like cricket and tennis. He stated, "Parents and children are now considering golf as a viable option. The IGPL's initiative, Golf on Wheels, is introducing the sport to various cities, which is a significant step forward in promoting golf among the youth."

Positive Outlook for Indian Golf and Future Olympics

Pukhraj is hopeful about India's prospects in future Olympic events, citing recent performances by Indian golfers. "Anirban had a remarkable stretch, and Aditi Ashok narrowly missed a medal last time. With more players participating and increased awareness, the future looks bright for Indian golf. Players like Yuvraj Sandhu and Shubhankar Sharma are consistently competing at high levels, indicating that golf in India is on an upward trajectory."
