Pukhraj Singh Gill Leads at ADT Players Championship with Stellar Performance
Gill Takes Charge in Malaysia
Pukhraj Singh Gill from India showcased exceptional skill by playing 25 holes on the second day, positioning himself for his first victory on the Asian Development Tour (ADT) at the ADT Players Championship.
The 29-year-old golfer, who previously secured the Order of Merit on the IGPL Tour in India, currently holds the 36-hole clubhouse lead with an impressive score of 11-under-par 133 at the Saujana Golf & Country Club in Malaysia.
Impact of Weather on the Tournament
Gill resumed his first round, improving his score from 4-under to 6-under, sharing the lead after the initial round was interrupted by a two-and-a-half-hour thunderstorm delay.
Although the weather was more favorable today, play was halted for nearly an hour due to lightning threats. A total of 44 players, including first-round co-leader Alfred Sitohang from Indonesia, will return to finish their second rounds tomorrow morning before the cut is made for the top 50 and ties.
Gill's Strong Performance
After starting with a six-under-par 66 at the Palm Course, Gill continued his momentum with a second-round score of 67, featuring seven birdies and two bogeys. He is currently one stroke ahead of Thai newcomer Thanawin Lee, who also recorded two rounds of 67.
Gill expressed his satisfaction with his performance, stating, "I'm very happy with how I've been playing, as I hardly made any mistakes. My first round was pretty flawless - fairway, green, many one-putts. In the second round, I made some crucial par saves."
Gill's Strategy Moving Forward
Despite feeling anxious after reaching 12-under-par, Gill aims to maintain his composure and continue his current strategy. He noted, "It was very good ball striking, and my play with the driver and wedges was also good. It is my first time at the Saujana course, and it sets up really well for me."
With three bogeys across 36 holes, Gill has also achieved 12 birdies and an eagle, drawing confidence from his recent performance in Singapore.
Performance of Other Indian Players
Teenager Kartik Singh is also performing well, currently tied for 7th after a 5-under first round and 1-over through 12 holes in the second round. Khalin is 2-under and tied for 21st after a 71 and 1-under through nine holes.
Aman Raj is tied for 52nd at 1-over, while Aryan Roopa Anand, who recently triumphed on the IGPL, and Varun Parikh will miss the cut after scores of 74-75 and 77-73, respectively.
