Udine, Italy - On August 14, Tottenham Hotspur faced a heartbreaking defeat in the UEFA Super Cup final, losing to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) after leading 2-0.

In a thrilling match on Wednesday night, PSG mounted a remarkable comeback in the closing moments of the second half, clinching the title in the opening match of the European football season.

The Premier League team took the lead in the 39th minute when a free kick was delivered into the box. Although PSG's debut goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier made a spectacular save from Joao Palhinha, Micky van de Ven capitalized on the rebound to score.

After the break, another free kick from Pedro Porro found Cristian Romero unmarked at the back post, and his header slipped past the goalkeeper, extending Spurs' lead.

In the 65th minute, Bradley Barcola appeared to score for PSG, but the goal was disallowed for offside. With only six minutes remaining, Tottenham's fortunes changed as Kang-in Lee scored a stunning strike from outside the box, igniting PSG's comeback. In injury time, Goncalo Ramos' header from an Ousmane Dembele cross equalized the match, forcing a penalty shootout.

During the shootout, Dominic Solanke and Rodrigo Bentancur converted their penalties, but Micky van de Ven's attempt was saved, and Mathys Tel missed his shot. PSG ultimately triumphed 4-3, with Nuno Mendes scoring the decisive penalty.

After the match, Spurs coach Thomas Frank expressed pride in his team's performance, stating, "We showed we can compete with any team in the world. I am proud of the players, the club, and the fans." He noted that the team had controlled the game for most of the match until PSG shifted the momentum.

Tottenham will kick off their Premier League campaign against newly-promoted Burnley on Saturday.
