Proteas and Canada Gear Up for T20 World Cup with Fresh Perspectives
Markram: Proteas Focused on Future, Not Past
Aiden Markram, the captain of South Africa, has made it clear that the team is not burdened by the memories of their loss in the 2024 T20 World Cup final against India. He stated that their drive stems from a strong desire to win rather than reflecting on previous setbacks. "The last World Cup is behind us; it was two years ago. We've played numerous matches since then," Markram expressed during the Captain's Day press conference ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup, as reported by ICC. He emphasized that every captain aims to lift the trophy, but first, they must perform well in the group stage. "This tournament is unpredictable; any team can triumph on any given day. A couple of standout performances can change the game. We are here to win, and while the 2024 loss motivates us, it is not our only source of inspiration," he added.
Canada's Captain Bajwa Confident Ahead of World Cup Debut
Dilpreet Bajwa, the captain of Canada, expressed pride as the team prepares for their T20 World Cup debut, emphasizing the extensive preparation and adaptability required for the tournament. "This is a significant moment for all our players," Bajwa remarked. He noted that many players hail from India and acknowledged the challenging conditions in Canada. However, he credited their board for organizing a pre-tour in Sri Lanka, which allowed them to prepare effectively. Bajwa mentioned that the team utilized this tour to experiment with combinations and strategies. "We played several matches to assess our lineup. As captain, I believe we are well-prepared, but since it's a day game, we must remain adaptable and ready for anything," he concluded.
