Prithvi Shaw Seeks NOC to Join New State Team for Upcoming Domestic Season

Prithvi Shaw's Transition from Mumbai Cricket
Former Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw has reportedly requested a non-objection certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to enable him to play for a different state team in the forthcoming domestic cricket season.
Shaw has been associated with Mumbai cricket since his youth, representing the team at various age levels before making his senior debut in 2017 during the Ranji Trophy semifinal against Tamil Nadu, which Mumbai won by six wickets. He was once hailed as the next Sachin Tendulkar after matching the legendary player's record of scoring centuries in both his Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy debuts.
After a decade-long relationship with Mumbai Cricket, Shaw is preparing to leave the team. MCA secretary Abhay Hadap confirmed that Shaw has formally requested the NOC.
"He has just sent us a letter seeking NOC. We have informed the Apex Council members. We will issue the NOC soon," Hadap stated.
Reasons Behind Shaw's Departure from Mumbai Cricket
Prithvi Shaw has been part of Mumbai's cricket scene since December last year but was dropped from the Ranji Trophy squad midway through the season due to fitness issues and disciplinary concerns. In his letter to the MCA, he mentioned receiving an offer to play for another state team, which he believes will aid in his 'growth and development' as a cricketer.
"At this juncture of my career, I have been presented with a promising opportunity to play professional cricket under another State Association, which I believe will further contribute to my growth and development as a cricketer," Shaw expressed in his letter.
"In light of this, I kindly request you to issue me a No Objection Certificate (NOC) that will enable me to officially represent the new state association in the upcoming domestic season," he added.
Shaw's Impressive Stats and Future Prospects
In his 32 first-class matches for Mumbai, Prithvi Shaw has scored 2,648 runs, including seven centuries and ten fifties, with an impressive average of 49.03. He holds the record for the highest individual score by a Mumbai player in Ranji Trophy history, having scored 379 runs off 383 balls against Assam in Guwahati.
Shaw had a remarkable Vijay Hazare Trophy season in 2020/21, accumulating 827 runs, including four centuries and one fifty, at an average of 165.40 over eight matches. This record was later surpassed by Tamil Nadu's N Jagadeeshan, who scored 830 runs in the 2022/23 season.
Potential New Team for Shaw
While Prithvi Shaw has not disclosed which state team he plans to join for the next domestic season, reports suggest he has received offers from three to four state teams eager to recruit him.
According to a report, Shaw is likely to join Maharashtra, a neighboring state to Mumbai. He recently participated in the Mumbai T20 League 2025, playing for North Mumbai Panthers, where he scored 137 runs at an average of 27.40 across five matches.
Following the Mumbai T20 League, Shaw reportedly decided to transition to Maharashtra for the upcoming domestic season, mirroring the path of his friend Arjun Tendulkar, who left Mumbai to play for Goa in the 2022/23 season.
Since 2021, Shaw has been off the national selectors' radar and faced a significant career setback when he went unsold at the IPL 2025 Auction. Securing the NOC is crucial for revitalizing his domestic and international career prospects.
