Prithvi Shaw Denies Allegations from Influencer Sapna Gill: A Battle of Publicity?
Prithvi Shaw Responds to Allegations
Mumbai: Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw has asserted that the allegations made by social media influencer Sapna Gill regarding an alleged molestation incident are baseless and intended to tarnish his reputation for publicity purposes.
In a formal response submitted to the court, Shaw accused Gill of exploiting the 'womanhood card' to settle a personal grudge stemming from a 2023 incident involving a pub altercation.
Gill was arrested in February 2023 after an alleged confrontation with Shaw over taking selfies at a hotel in the suburbs.
Following her release on bail, she filed a complaint against Shaw, his associate Ashish Yadav, and others, claiming molestation and violation of modesty. However, the police did not file a First Information Report (FIR).
Subsequently, Gill sought intervention from a magistrate's court to compel the police to register an FIR.
The magistrate ordered a preliminary investigation under section 202 of the Code of Criminal Procedure to assess whether there were adequate grounds for a case.
The police concluded that there was no evidence of wrongdoing by Shaw and his companions.
Dissatisfied with this outcome, Gill submitted a revision petition to a sessions court in April 2024, represented by advocate Ali Kaashif Khan.
After several delays in responding, Shaw finally submitted his reply, asserting that Gill's actions were a retaliatory move against the FIR filed against her.
Shaw's response characterized Gill's revision application as 'false, frivolous, and vexatious,' aimed solely at damaging his public image and exploiting his celebrity status.
The reply further claimed that Gill, described as a struggling actress, was motivated by a desire for publicity and financial gain through her allegations.
The next hearing for this case is scheduled for March 31.
In response, Gill's attorney remarked that Shaw's reply lacked any substantial evidence or alibi to support his claims.
