Prasidh Krishna Aims for Redemption in Upcoming Test After Disappointing Performance

India's Fast Bowlers Under Pressure

India's aspirations for a comeback in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy now hinge on the performance of their fast bowlers. After a disappointing defeat at Headingley, where England successfully chased down 371 runs to take a 1-0 lead, fast bowler Prasidh Krishna has reflected on his performance and identified areas for improvement ahead of the second Test.

Krishna's Mixed Performance

Despite securing five wickets during the match, Krishna faced criticism for his bowling. He dismissed Ollie Pope, Harry Brook, and Jamie Smith in the first innings, and then took out Zak Crawley and Pope again in the second. However, his economy rate of 6.28 raised concerns, as he conceded a total of 128 runs in 20 overs and 92 runs in 15 overs, setting an unwanted record as the first bowler in Test history to allow over 90 runs in both innings at an economy exceeding six runs per over.

Acknowledging Mistakes

Krishna took responsibility for his performance, stating,

"Every time I come into bowl, I'm definitely looking to bowl a maiden and I'm not really trying to give away boundaries or anything. The outfield [at Headingley] was fast, the lengths, lines that I bowled were not perfect to be honest at most times, and they took me on. Some of them were edges, some of them I tried bowling bouncers, I ended up giving runs."

Focus on Improvement

He further added,

"So I think somebody in the team had to do it, and if I sit back and say, 'I want to look at my numbers, what my economy is,' and not really look at the wickets, it cost me a 4 and a 6, and then Jamie Smith got out, so if it means that I do that and get a wicket, I'm happy to do it, but definitely every time I come on to the bowl, I am looking to keep the economy down and build the pressure up."

Preparing for the Next Challenge

Prasidh Krishna understands the need to improve his bowling lengths and manage the run rate to be more effective in the second Test. After a challenging debut at Headingley, he is focused on learning from his mistakes. With Bumrah likely to miss several matches, Krishna will have added responsibilities. He is also dedicating time to enhance his batting skills to support the team from the lower order. With the right mindset and effort, Krishna aims to bounce back stronger and contribute significantly to India's success.
