Historic Victory at IGPL Invitational

Pranavi Urs delivered an impressive performance with an 8-under par in the final round of the IGPL Invitational held at the Bombay Presidency Golf Club, marking a significant milestone in Indian golf. She has become the first Indian female golfer to secure a title in a mixed competition, as reported by the IGPL.

Competing against a field that included only a handful of women, Pranavi entered the last day two strokes behind her boyfriend, Karandeep Kochhar, who was leading. Despite Kochhar's eagle finish, she managed to surpass him and the rest of the competitors by two shots.

A Remarkable Round of Golf

Uttam Singh Mundy, the CEO of IGPL and a former Asian Tour player, praised Pranavi's performance, stating, "That was a sensational round by any standard. She exhibited remarkable confidence and dominated the game from the turn, clearly establishing herself as the best player this week."

He further noted that the IGPL had long envisioned a female professional golfer triumphing over top male players in India. He recalled Hitaashee Bakshi's recent 8-under performance in Pune, but emphasized that Pranavi's journey from sharing the lead after the first round to clinching the title was truly historic.

Recognition and Rewards

For her victory, Pranavi earned a prize of Rs. 22,50,000, while Kochhar, who finished second, received Rs. 15,00,000.

Kochhar expressed his admiration, saying, "She is treating me to dinner, and I would gladly cover the bill. Watching her play the final round was a delight. I would have needed to play exceptionally well to compete with her today, but she left no room for error with her flawless 8-under performance."

Support from the Women's Golf Community

Champika Sayal, Secretary-General of the Women's Golf Association of India (WGAI), commended Pranavi's groundbreaking achievement, stating, "Her win at IGPL Mumbai is a testament to her exceptional talent, experience, and dedication. Breaking barriers in sports is no small feat."

She added that Pranavi's success serves as an inspiration for aspiring female golfers and highlighted the importance of equal pay in the sport, praising the IGPL for its commitment to promoting inclusivity.

Insights from Golf Legends

SSP Chawrasia, a celebrated figure in Indian golf with multiple titles, returned from the players' lounge to witness Pranavi's finish. He remarked, "This is an incredible display of skill. I wouldn't be surprised if she soon secures a win on the Ladies European Tour, where she has come close before."

Olympian Udayan Mane, who led his team to victory in the IGPL Mumbai Pro-Am, stated, "On this day, no one could have outperformed her. Her victory showcases the immense talent present in India."
