Pranavi Urs and Diksha Dagar Advance at Joburg Ladies Open Despite Challenges
Joburg Ladies Open: Round Two Highlights
Johannesburg [South Africa], April 6: Golfer Pranavi Urs faced difficulties during the second round of the Joburg Ladies Open, held in hot weather, yet successfully made the 36-hole cut alongside her compatriot Diksha Dagar, who finished her second round at even par.
At the Par-73 Modderfontein Golf Club on Saturday, Diksha (71-73) and Pranavi (70-77) found themselves in T-22 and T-56 positions, respectively.
Unfortunately, fellow Indian golfers Avani Prashanth (77-74) and Tvesa Malik (77-79) did not fare as well and missed the cut.
After a suspension of play during the second round, similar to the previous day, the tournament resumed at 10 am local time. Heavy rainfall had caused flooding, resulting in the event being shortened to 54 holes.
Leading the tournament is England's Mimi Rhodes, who completed her second round over two days. Starting the day five holes in, she enjoyed a bogey-free round with four birdies, finishing at 12-under par.
Pranavi's week has been quite eventful. Initially, she was 5-under through 13 holes before play was suspended on the first day. Upon resuming, she added a birdie to reach 6-under, but then faced a setback with three consecutive bogeys, concluding the round with a score of 70. In her second round, she recorded four birdies, five bogeys, and a triple bogey, finishing with a score of 77 but still making the cut.
Diksha had a solid first round, remaining bogey-free with two birdies. In her second round, she managed one birdie and two bogeys on the front nine, followed by eight consecutive pars, finishing with a birdie on the 18th hole for an even par round, placing her at T-22.
If Mimi Rhodes secures the win, it would mark her second consecutive victory, following her first LET win at the Ford Women’s NSW Open in Australia just two weeks prior, making it a remarkable start to her rookie season.
Just one shot behind is South Africa's Casandra Alexander at nine under par, tied for T2 with Ireland's Lauren Walsh.
Rookie Kajsa Arwefjall is two shots back, having an impressive front nine with five birdies, finishing at seven-under par.
After 36 holes of play amidst a week of uncertainty in Joburg, 64 players made the cut, which was set at one-over-par.
