Prachi Devkar's Triumph in Steeplechase
Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], December 5: Prachi Devkar expressed her joy after securing the gold medal in the Women's Steeplechase event during the Khelo India University Games 2025.
Devkar reflected on her achievement, stating, “Winning the gold medal makes me incredibly happy, especially since this is my first time competing in the Khelo India University Games 2025... I performed really well...”

Samardeep Singh Gill Breaks Records in Shot Put
Samardeep Singh Gill from the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) surpassed his own All India University (AIU) record in the men's Shot Put at the Khelo India University Games, held at Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Rajasthan 2025.
Samardeep, who has triumphed over two-time Asian Games champion Tajinderpal Singh Toor three times this year, launched the shot put to an impressive distance of 19.42m on his second attempt, earning him the gold medal. Aniket from Guru Kashi University finished second with a throw of 18.08m.
Previously holding the AIU record (18.76m) and the KIUG record (18.75m), Samardeep has consistently thrown over 19 meters this year, showcasing his exceptional form in Jaipur.
Overview of the Khelo India University Games 2025
The fifth edition of the KIUG 2025 is taking place across seven cities in Rajasthan, featuring a remarkable 4,448 athletes from 222 universities competing in 23 medal events. The Games are organized under the Sports Authority of India in partnership with the Rajasthan State Sports Council and hosted by Poornima University.
Olympian Animesh Kujur, a national record holder in the 100m and 200m, concluded the competition for KIIT on a high note, leading his team to set a new 4x100m meet record with a time of 40.09 seconds.
Silver medalists Mahatma Gandhi University matched the previous KIUG record of 40.76 seconds, which was held by Mangalore University.
With only one day remaining in the competition, Chandigarh University has increased its lead in the medals tally to 41, having secured seven gold medals in Canoeing and Kayaking on Thursday.
While Chandigarh University excelled in Canoeing and Kayaking, three new records were established in athletics, bringing the total to 12 records over four days.
