Introduction of InSight AI

PlaySight has introduced a groundbreaking generative AI analysis tool named InSight AI, aimed at providing players with immediate and actionable feedback post-match, enhancing their performance. This innovative product, which specializes in racquet sports, will first be launched in pickleball this week, with plans for a padel version in the second quarter and tennis to follow in 2026.

Collaboration with Microsoft

According to reports from Sports Business Journal, InSight AI was developed through a strategic partnership with Microsoft, utilizing Azure OpenAI technology. The official unveiling is scheduled for the RacquetX conference in Fort Lauderdale this weekend, marking a significant advancement in the integration of technology within coaching and player development in racquet sports.

How InSight AI Works

The core of this system is PlaySight’s single-camera setup, which tracks the ball and provides 3D representations of each player. This data is processed by InSight AI, which generates automated coaching insights following a match. The feedback focuses on a player’s strengths and weaknesses, offering tailored suggestions for improvement. The goal is to transform match data into practical advice that players can apply in their next game.

Target Audience and Goals

Chen Shachar, CEO and co-founder of PlaySight, mentioned that the company collaborates with over 700 teams and facilities across various sports. He highlighted that pickleball has emerged as the fastest-growing racquet sport utilizing PlaySight’s technology. While the company has partnerships with the USTA and collegiate tennis programs, InSight AI is primarily designed for recreational players seeking practical tips and strategies against specific opponents.

“We are focusing on the 95 percent of players who are there to enjoy the game and share their experiences on social media,” Shachar explained. “They want straightforward advice on how to improve or gain an edge over their rivals.” This approach makes the product relatable, as not every player aspires to elite competition, yet many desire a deeper understanding of their game.

Future Developments

PlaySight’s broader vision indicates that this is merely the beginning. The company already automates highlight reels for players, which will soon be linked to insights generated by the AI tool. Future developments include a rating system created with DUPR Coach, a recommendation engine for selecting the ideal racquet, and a natural language interface for users to ask questions directly.

“We are keen to understand what players truly want,” Shachar stated. “While we discuss future possibilities, we currently provide up to five key points derived from analyzing a player’s game, highlighting their strengths and areas to maintain.”

Advanced Technology

At the foundation of this innovation is PlaySight’s third-generation camera, specifically designed for racquet sports and developed a year ago. It captures footage at 60 frames per second, ensuring “zero distortion” for optimal accuracy. For players seeking clear insights after a closely contested match, this promise of precision may prove as crucial as the AI itself.
