Pickleball's Surge in Asia: Vietnam Leads the Charge

The Rise of Pickleball in Asia

Pickleball is experiencing a remarkable surge in Asia, with Vietnam emerging as a pivotal player in the sport's global growth. The increasing frequency of tournaments, heightened participation, and growing fan engagement in Asia are beginning to rival traditional racquet sports like tennis.

Professional athletes are taking note of this trend. Zane Navratil, a star on the PPA Tour, shared that his experience in Vietnam was the most unforgettable of his career after participating in the PPA Tour Asia event in Da Nang last year. This event attracted an impressive 7,906 spectators, setting a Guinness World Record for the largest attendance at a pickleball event.

What impressed Navratil most was not just the crowd size but the vibrant atmosphere. Unlike tennis audiences, who typically remain quiet during play, pickleball fans in Vietnam reacted enthusiastically in real-time, creating a unique energy that he described as 'uniquely pickleball.' This experience transformed his view of the sport's potential in the region, as he noted the widespread support both inside and outside the venue.

Moreover, he observed numerous pickleball courts throughout Da Nang, indicating that the sport's appeal in Vietnam goes beyond just one major event. The momentum is expected to continue, with World No. 1 Anna Leigh Waters set to make her international debut at the MB Hanoi Cup from April 1–5, where players can earn 1,000 global ranking points. Additionally, she will host Franklin Sports clinics in Ho Chi Minh City on April 6–7.

With rising player involvement, record-setting crowds, and expanding facilities, Asia is rapidly becoming a central hub in the global pickleball narrative.
