In the past five years, participation in pickleball has skyrocketed by over 311%, with approximately 19.8 million individuals engaging in the sport. While golf has traditionally held the top position, pickleball is rapidly narrowing the gap.

A recent survey by the Sports and Fitness Industry Association revealed a 45.8% increase in participants in pickleball tournaments across the US from 2023. This surge has raised the number of amateur players to 13.6 million, marking a 55.6% increase over the last two years, while the number of aspiring professional players has reached 6.2 million, a 28.2% rise from the previous year.
Since the initial study of the pickleball boom in 2019, participation has consistently grown, indicating a shift from a niche recreational activity to one of the fastest-growing sports in the nation. As the sport gains popularity, the demand for pickleball courts has surged, prompting the establishment of facilities in community parks, recreation centers, and private clubs. Additionally, many underused tennis courts have been renovated into pickleball courts, further facilitating the sport's expansion throughout the United States.
