Philippine Pickleball Federation Launches National Framework for Sustainable Growth

New Framework for Pickleball in the Philippines

The Philippine Pickleball Federation (PPF) has introduced a comprehensive national framework aimed at ensuring the sport's sustainable growth across the nation. This initiative has received official recognition from both the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC). The federation has unveiled a detailed development pathway that aims to establish competitive standards while promoting grassroots involvement.

Launch of the National Player Registry

At the heart of this initiative is the Philippine Pickleball Participant (PPP) Registry, which will serve as a centralized database for players, coaches, and officials. Accessible via registry.pickleball.ph, this registry will function as the official identification and tracking system for pickleball in the Philippines. PPF President Shery Anne Cu stated, “This will be the official national players registry, providing a unified identification system for all players, enabling us to track participation, match history, and rankings effectively.” She highlighted the importance of balancing inclusivity with competitive integrity, ensuring that grassroots participation remains accessible while fostering higher-level competition.

Introduction of National Rankings and Leaderboard

Alongside the registry, the PPF will implement the first official national rankings and leaderboard system in the country. Players will accumulate ranking points solely through sanctioned tournaments and recognized international competitions. Cu elaborated, “Players will earn ranking points exclusively through these sanctioned events, utilizing a 12-month rolling system to accurately reflect current performance.” This approach aims to ensure that rankings are a true representation of players' current abilities rather than historical achievements.

Upcoming National and International Events

One of the first major events under this new framework is the 1st Philippine Pickleball Amateur Nationals 2026, which is sanctioned by the PPF and co-sponsored by Skechers. Scheduled for March 28 to 30 in Las Pinas, this tournament will provide selected winners the chance to represent the Philippines at the EPIC World Amateur Championships in Singapore from April 30 to May 3. This marks a significant advancement in creating a structured international pathway for Filipino players.

With the establishment of a centralized registry, standardized rankings, and a clear competitive structure, the PPF's new framework signifies a transition from rapid organic growth to a more organized, performance-oriented era for pickleball in the Philippines.
