Pat Cummins Takes Responsibility for Sunrisers Hyderabad's Loss Against Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025

Sunrisers Hyderabad's Struggles in IPL 2025
After their defeat to Gujarat Titans (GT) on Friday, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Pat Cummins expressed his regret, attributing the loss to his own performance in the 51st match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
Gujarat Titans showcased a dominant display, setting a formidable score and executing a strong performance to secure two points against SRH in Ahmedabad during the 18th season of the lucrative league.
Cummins Reflects on Missed Opportunities
Following this setback, the 2016 champions find themselves in ninth place on the IPL 2025 points table, having won only three out of ten matches, accumulating six points. A loss in any of their remaining four games would result in their elimination from the tournament.
"There were a few factors at play. Our batting during the powerplay was subpar, and I share the blame. I likely allowed them to score an additional 20-30 runs. Perhaps I should have held onto one or two catches as well. Chasing a target of 200 seemed more feasible. Their batters are skilled and capitalize on poor deliveries," Cummins stated during the post-match interview.
Analyzing the Match Performance
"We probably bowled too many bad balls. The pitch was excellent. Conceding 140 runs in the last 14 overs was commendable from a bowling perspective. Sharma played well, and Nitish contributed at the end. We left too much for the batters to do. However, we still have hope. The core team will remain intact for three years following last year's auction, so there’s plenty to fight for. The venue is fantastic, and the crowd is incredibly supportive," added the right-arm seamer.
Recap of the Match Against Gujarat Titans
In their chase, Sunrisers Hyderabad started aggressively, with Abhishek and Head scoring 45 runs in the first four overs against bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Ishant Sharma.
Prasidh Krishna was brought into the attack and quickly made an impact. Head attempted a big shot but was caught by Rashid, who made a spectacular catch, sending the Australian back to the pavilion for 20 runs off 16 balls.
Ishan Kishan struggled with a score of 13 off 17 balls before being dismissed by Gerald Coetzee. Heinrich Klaasen and Abhishek then partnered to counterattack, hitting two sixes off Rashid Khan to lower the required run rate.
Turning Point in the Match
Abhishek reached his fifty with a powerful shot over long leg and continued to attack Rashid, but his innings ended when he was caught by Siraj for 74 runs.
Klaasen followed suit, scoring 23 runs before edging a ball to Jos Buttler. Hyderabad's chase faltered as Siraj took two wickets in quick succession, sealing their fate.
Nitish Reddy managed to hit a couple of sixes in the final overs, but with 44 runs needed in the last over, the game was effectively over. Cummins and Nitish finished the over, leading to a 38-run defeat.
