Glasgow [Scotland], July 30: Indian distance runner Parul Choudhary secured fifth place in the women's 3000m steeplechase final during Day 7 of the Commonwealth Games 2026. She narrowly missed a podium finish in a race that was clinched by Kenya's Faith Cherotich, who set a new Games Record.

Initially, Parul was competitive, but as the race progressed into its critical stages, she lost contact with the leading group. Ultimately, she finished approximately 25 seconds behind the winner, as reported by ESPN.

The contest for the silver medal was thrilling, with England's Elise Thorner overtaking Kenya's Peruth Cherotich in the final 200 meters to claim second place, while Cherotich settled for bronze.

Nayanmoni Saikia Shines in Lawn Bowls

In lawn bowls, Nayanmoni Saikia rebounded from an earlier defeat in the group stage, achieving a vital 2-0 victory against Caroline Whitehead from the Isle of Man in the women's singles sectional play.

After winning the first set, Saikia found herself behind in the second but rallied to finish strong, winning the set 7-4, which was crucial for her semifinal aspirations. Only the group winner can progress to the knockout rounds, making this victory essential for the Indian athlete.

In the para-athletics category, Sagar Thayat and Devender Kumar finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the men's discus throw F42-44/F61-64 final.
