Engaging Youth in Pickleball

During a recent spring break event, over 70 children at the Marjorie S. Fisher Boys & Girls Club in West Palm Beach were introduced to the sport of pickleball, thanks to a collaboration with the Palm Beach Royals. This team is notable for being the first professional pickleball squad in Palm Beach County, aiming to inspire younger generations as the sport gains traction.

Robert Williams expressed enthusiasm, stating, “It’s explosive, man, I really think that we can do this, and I feel like they are really a good help.” Another participant, Taylor Smith, shared, “Pickleball is amazing. It was very cool, and I like how it’s played. I like how it was demonstrated.”

The event featured professional trainers who provided coaching, and each child received paddles and shirts. Chelsea Klein, the Royals’ strategic partnership and events manager, remarked, “We wanted to bring pickleball to a new generation, so what better way to bring it to the kids of Palm Beach County than the Boys and Girls Club?”

Williams added, “I feel like it’s not a bad sport, and I feel like I could do better with the sport, and I could really improve because in the last 10 to 15 minutes I’m already doing well.” Smith noted, “Pickleball is really easy, and it doesn’t take that much to learn.” When asked if they would like to play for the Royals in the future, the children responded with a resounding yes.
