Introduction of Pickleball Base Osaka

On April 1, 2026, Osaka will unveil its inaugural specialized pickleball facility, named “Pickleball Base Osaka,” situated within the Hotel Agora Regency Osaka Sakai. This venue, managed by Fundamental Japan Co., Ltd., will occupy the sixth floor of the hotel and will be conveniently linked to Osaka Sakai Station. It will boast six courts that meet international standards, establishing it as one of the largest pickleball centers in western Japan.

The initiative is spearheaded by Kento Tagashira, the Representative Director and a former professional tennis player, who sees immense potential for pickleball's growth in Japan. This center will be the first of its kind in the city, aimed at fostering the rapidly growing racket sport throughout Osaka and the wider Kansai area.

Pickleball, which combines elements from tennis, table tennis, and badminton, has experienced a notable increase in global participation, especially in the United States and China. The sport is also vying for inclusion in the 2032 Olympic Games, which is expected to further enhance its popularity.

Tagashira is particularly attracted to the sport's accessibility and its rising international profile. The organizers emphasize that the six-court venue will cater to both novices and seasoned players, positioning Osaka as a new focal point for pickleball in the region.
