Impressive Start for Odisha at the National Para Athletics Championship
Bhubaneswar: On the inaugural day of the 24th National Para Athletics Championship 2026, athletes from Odisha made a remarkable impression by winning 2 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze medals.
The event kicked off with vibrant energy at Kalinga Stadium, attracting elite para-athletes from all over the nation and showcasing thrilling performances across various disciplines.
Jayanti Behera led the charge for the host state, securing a gold medal in the Women’s 100m T47 event with a remarkable time of 13.17 seconds, demonstrating her exceptional speed and determination.
In the Women’s 100m T12 category, Janaki Oram also shone brightly, clinching gold with a time of 13.81 seconds, which was one of the standout moments of the day.
Ranjit Chanda contributed to the medal haul by winning a bronze in the Men’s Javelin Throw F46 event, achieving a throw of 55.55 meters, while Satyanarayan Jena also performed admirably with a distance of 51.49 meters, placing him among the top competitors.
Kamalakanta Nayak added another bronze to the tally in the Men’s 100m T53 event, finishing with a commendable time of 20.81 seconds.
Further enhancing Odisha’s performance, Kabita Prabahue secured a silver medal in the Women’s 100m T13 event, clocking in at 16.05 seconds.
