Odisha's Para Athletes Shine Bright at National Championships 2026
Outstanding Performances on Day 2 of the Championships
Bhubaneswar: The para athletes from Odisha showcased remarkable talent during the second day of the 24th National Para Athletics Championships 2026 held at Kalinga Stadium on Friday.
In the Men's Long Jump T36 category, Jayprakash Barik excelled, earning a gold medal with a leap of 4.83 meters, making his state proud. Meanwhile, Jadunath Majhi demonstrated exceptional grit in the Men's 400m T11, securing a silver medal with a time of 57.70 seconds.
Jayanti Behera continued her impressive streak by winning a silver medal in the Women's 400m T47 event, finishing in 1:04.35, which added to Odisha's growing medal count. In the Men's Long Jump T13, Managat Hembrom also claimed silver with a notable jump of 6.33 meters. Pipun Kumar Sahoo and Pankaj Bhue finished 5th and 8th respectively, with jumps of 5.71m and 5.24m, highlighting the depth of talent within the Odisha team.
On Day 2, Odisha athletes secured a total of four medals, comprising one gold and three silvers. Following a strong Day 1 performance, where they won five medals, including two golds, one silver, and two bronzes, the para athletes demonstrated the incredible strength of the human spirit, inspiring cheers from the audience. Their determination shines bright, even in the face of challenges.
