Bhubaneswar: Odisha is gearing up for an exhilarating season of cricket as the Odisha T20 League CM Trophy is set to kick off at the renowned Barabati Stadium in Cuttack from September 20 to 29, featuring six franchises vying for the championship.
This tournament, aptly named the CM Trophy, highlights the commitment of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi towards fostering cricket and sports development in the state, offering a significant platform for budding cricketers to display their skills.
The teams competing this year include the Cuttack Panthers, Bhubaneswar Tigers, Rourkela Steelers, Keonjhar Miners, Puri Titans, and Sambalpur Warriors.
A players' draft is scheduled for September 6, leading up to the 17-match tournament.
The trophy was officially launched on Sunday, with the presence of key officials from the Odisha Cricket Association, including President Pankaj Lochan Mohanty, Joint Secretary Prabhat Bhol, Treasurer Bikash Pradhan, and Apex Council Member Pratap Chandra Pradhan.
In the previous season, the Cuttack Panthers claimed the title, and this year, all six teams are eager to compete fiercely for the trophy.
The President of the Odisha Cricket Association remarked, “The Odisha T20 League CM Trophy is a crucial initiative to enhance the cricketing landscape in our state.
We aim to not only host a competitive tournament but also to create an environment where young talents can thrive, learn, and advance their careers.
Our goal is to ensure that Odisha’s promising cricketers receive the exposure necessary to elevate their professional journeys.”
The league will emphasize increasing visibility for local players.
With matches held at the Barabati Stadium and broadcasted to a broader audience, young athletes will have the chance to attract the attention of scouts and teams from outside the state.
The tournament will consist of 17 matches entirely at the Barabati Stadium, culminating in an exhibition women’s match on the final day.
With six franchises, a total of 17 competitive matches, and a pool of enthusiastic young cricketers, the Odisha T20 League CM Trophy is set to be more than just a local T20 event.
It will serve as a launching pad for Odisha’s future cricket stars to aspire for greater achievements, perform under pressure, and take their initial steps toward opportunities at the highest levels of the sport.
