Djokovic's Motivation for the 2028 Olympics
Former World No. 1 tennis star Novak Djokovic has expressed that his primary motivation in the sport is to defend his Olympic title at the 2028 Games in Los Angeles.
Currently, only Great Britain's Andy Murray has successfully defended an Olympic singles title. By the time the LA 2028 Olympics occur, Djokovic will be 41 years old.
Aiming for a Sixth Olympic Appearance
Despite participating in fewer tournaments in recent years, the 24-time Grand Slam champion revealed to football manager Slaven Bilic that he is eager to compete in his sixth Olympic Games, having secured a singles bronze medal during his debut in Beijing 2008.
"At this moment, the only professional goal I have in mind is the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. While I also value playing for my national team and competing in Grand Slams, nothing motivates me quite like the Olympics," Djokovic stated in an interview referenced by Olympics.com.
Achieving a Golden Slam
At 38 years old, Djokovic's recent victory over Carlos Alcaraz in the Paris 2024 final marked the completion of his career golden slam, which includes winning all four Grand Slam titles, the Davis Cup, the ATP Finals, and every Masters event.
The tennis events for the LA 2028 Olympics will take place at the Tennis Center in Carson, a facility currently serving as a USTA high-performance training base.
In the latest French Open 2025, Djokovic faced a setback, losing to world number one Jannik Sinner in the semifinals with scores of 6-4, 7-5, 7-6(3).
