Serbian tennis sensation Novak Djokovic has secured his place in the Wimbledon semifinals for an unprecedented 14th time by defeating Italy's Flavio Cobolli. This victory brings him one step closer to clinching his eighth title at this prestigious tournament.
With a total of 24 Grand Slam titles to his name, including seven from Wimbledon, Djokovic has now surpassed Roger Federer's record. Previously, both players held the record for reaching the semifinals at Wimbledon 13 times, but Djokovic has now taken the lead.
Most Semifinal Appearances at Wimbledon
Djokovic has reached the Wimbledon semifinals in the years 2007, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025. In contrast, Roger Federer made it 13 times in the years 2003 through 2019. Jimmy Connors ranks third with 11 semifinal appearances from 1974 to 1987.
In the quarterfinal match, Cobolli managed to win the first set, but Djokovic made a remarkable comeback, ultimately winning the match with scores of 6-7 (6), 6-2, 7-5, 6-4. This follows a similar pattern from his previous match, where he also rallied back after losing the first set.
In the round of 16, Djokovic faced Alex de Minaur, losing the first set but bouncing back to secure his spot in the quarterfinals. Next, he will compete against 23-year-old Jannik Sinner in the semifinals.
Ranked sixth, Djokovic took an early lead with a break, but Cobolli fought back to level the score, leading to a tiebreak. In the tiebreak, Cobolli took a 3-1 lead, but Djokovic managed to equalize at 6-6 before Cobolli clinched the set.
In the second set, Djokovic showcased his skills by breaking Cobolli's serve twice, winning the set comfortably and leveling the match. The third set was fiercely contested, but Djokovic secured it with a crucial break, finishing 7-5.
The fourth set mirrored the earlier sets, with Djokovic leading 5-4 and serving for the match. He had two match points at 40-15, but Cobolli saved both, including one where Djokovic slipped on the court. However, Djokovic regained his composure and ultimately won the match.
Throughout the match, Djokovic executed 39 outstanding shots, while Cobolli recorded 51 winners. Djokovic's first serve success rate was an impressive 75%, indicating that he won most points when he landed his first serve.
