Day 2 Highlights of the Championship

Greater Noida (Uttar Pradesh) [India], March 22: On the second day of the 8th Elite Women’s National Boxing Championship 2025, World Champion and Arjuna Awardee Nitu Ghanghas from Haryana showcased an impressive performance, achieving a unanimous victory against Anjali Choudhary from Rajasthan in the Minimumweight category (45-48kg), thus advancing to the next round.


In another match, Jaismine Lamboria, representing the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB), secured a comfortable win over Ice Prajapati from Uttar Pradesh. Her teammate, Sakshi, also from SSCB, mirrored this success with a decisive 5:0 victory against Punjab’s Sandeep Kaur, highlighting the strength of the Services team in the tournament.


This championship, organized by the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) in partnership with the Uttar Pradesh Boxing Association, is being held at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex in Greater Noida from March 20 to 27, 2025. The event features around 200 boxers from 24 state units competing across ten weight categories, adhering to the World Boxing Technical & Competition Rules, which include three three-minute rounds with one-minute breaks.


Anamika Hooda from Railways continued her impressive streak, following her opening-round knockout with another first-round stoppage against Manasa Veni Anakapalli from Andhra Pradesh, reinforcing her status as a title contender. Youth World Champion Devika Ghorpade from Maharashtra also made headlines by defeating Sumayya M from Karnataka with a knockout, securing her place in the next round.


In the 54-57kg category, Kunjarani Devi from Manipur narrowly defeated Monika Mehta from Uttarakhand with a 4:1 split decision. Poonam from Railways demonstrated her strength by overpowering Karnataka’s K Yoogasri. In the 60-65kg division, Sarita Rai from Uttar Pradesh achieved a well-deserved victory over Shivani from Delhi.


Minakshi from AIP showcased her skills with a commanding 5:0 unanimous win against Kerala’s Milano M.J in the 45-48kg category. In the 51-54kg division, Savita from RSPB triumphed over Puja Sonowal from Assam with a second-round stoppage (RSC). Additionally, Kerala’s Nandana C made a notable impact by securing a first-round RSC victory against Monika K from Karnataka, concluding a day filled with thrilling performances.
