Exciting Matches at the National Boxing Championships
New Delhi, January 7: At the Elite Men and Women National Boxing Championships held at Gautam Buddha University in Greater Noida, two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen, along with World Boxing Cup Finals 2025 gold medallist Pawan Bartwal and Sumit, showcased their skills by defeating their opponents decisively. Many other top contenders also secured easy victories, advancing to the quarterfinals in their respective weight classes.
This event marks a historic moment as it is the first instance where both men's and women's National Championships are being conducted simultaneously at a single venue, featuring 600 boxers competing across 10 weight categories for each gender.
In the women's 48-51kg division, the referee halted the match between Nikhat and Kulsooma Bano from Ladakh in the first round due to Nikhat's overwhelming performance. Pawan triumphed in the men's 50-55kg category against Lalit, while Sumit secured a win over Madhya Pradesh's Kapil, with both bouts concluding in the third round.
Earlier in the competition, world champion Minakshi, competing in the women's 45-48kg category, continued her impressive run with a dominant 5:0 victory against Annu from Jharkhand.
In the men's 50-55kg category, Jadumani Singh achieved a convincing 5:0 win over Manish Rathore from Uttar Pradesh, while 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Amit Panghal defeated Chandigarh's Krrish Pal with a score of 4:1.
