Nick Kyrgios Embraces Pickleball Amidst Tennis Hiatus
Kyrgios' New Venture into Pickleball
Nick Kyrgios, known for his vibrant personality, continues to make headlines even while sidelined by injuries. The Australian tennis star is now making waves in the world of pickleball, recognized as the fastest-growing sport globally. Although his absence from the ATP Tour has been felt, the 30-year-old has managed to maintain his relevance by launching his podcast, Good Trouble, and exploring opportunities in pickleball, showcasing both his curiosity and strategic adaptability.
Interestingly, Kyrgios does not perceive pickleball as a competitor to tennis. When questioned about the potential rivalry, he stated, “I don’t think so. They are very different games, and they shouldn’t try to compete.” Instead of viewing it as a threat, he envisions a future where both sports can coexist and flourish together, suggesting collaborative events similar to those held during the Australian Open in January.
Kyrgios also acknowledged pickleball's appeal to a younger audience, noting its less corporate nature, which allows for more freedom in attire and play style. His involvement in the sport extends beyond mere participation; he has teamed up with brands like The Picklr and Vulcan Sporting Goods, integrating himself into the sport's growing community. He expressed enthusiasm about the vibrant atmosphere at The Picklr clubs, emphasizing the competitive spirit that drew him in.
His dedication is further exemplified by his signature paddle, the Vulcan CHPT01, crafted for high-performance play. Designed to reflect his aggressive tennis style, it combines power with a lightweight frame. “I’m really excited about this one,” Kyrgios remarked. “The team was amazing at teaching me the difference in materials and what made a paddle great. Then we tailored it more toward my playing style so it would translate on the smaller court. Built for aggressive play, that’s why it is elongated - easier power.”
