Nicholas Pooran Takes the Helm as MI New York Captain for MLC 2025

Nicholas Pooran's New Role
Nicholas Pooran, a prominent figure in T20 cricket, has been appointed as the captain of MI New York for the upcoming 2025 Major League Cricket season. This announcement follows Pooran's recent retirement from international cricket with the West Indies at the age of 29. He succeeds Kieron Pollard, a legendary player in T20 formats, in this leadership position.
Pooran's Impressive Career Stats
Throughout his international career, Pooran played 167 matches across all formats, including a remarkable 106 T20 Internationals, making him the West Indies' most-capped player in this format. He concludes his international journey as the leading run-scorer for the West Indies in T20Is, amassing a total of 2,275 runs.
Pooran opted out of the current T20I series against England to recuperate after an intense IPL 2025 season with the Lucknow Super Giants. His performance in 2024 was outstanding, setting a world record with 170 sixes in a single calendar year. He continued this form into IPL 2025, where he scored 524 runs at an impressive strike rate of 196.25, including five half-centuries.
His last appearance in West Indies colors was during a T20I against Bangladesh in December 2024, while his final ODI match took place in July 2023. Notably, he has never participated in Test cricket for the West Indies.
