New Delhi, July 13: Two-time Olympic medalist Neeraj Chopra is gearing up for a highly anticipated match against Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem at the Silesia Diamond League 2025, scheduled for August 16 in Poland. This event marks their first encounter since the Paris 2024 Olympics.
During the last Olympics, Nadeem achieved a remarkable gold medal with a record-breaking throw of 92.97 meters, while Chopra secured a silver medal.
Although the complete participant list for the Silesia Diamond League 2025 has not yet been released, event organizers have confirmed that both athletes will be competing.
According to a statement from Olympis.com, "Neeraj Chopra will face Arshad Nadeem. This Indian-Pakistani rivalry promises to be an exciting spectacle for Polish fans, offering Chopra a chance for redemption following the Paris Olympics."
Chopra recently showcased his skills by winning the inaugural Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025, held at the Sri Kanteerava Outdoor Stadium in Bengaluru on July 5.
World Athletics has updated its rankings, placing Neeraj at 1,445 points, just ahead of Peters, who has 1,431 points. Nadeem, the Olympic champion from Pakistan, ranks fourth with 1,370 points.
Neeraj lost his top ranking to Peters in September 2024, shortly after earning a silver medal at the Paris Olympics with a throw of 89.45 meters, while Peters claimed bronze.
The year 2025 has been remarkable for Neeraj, starting with a victory at the Potch Invitational in Potchefstroom, South Africa, in April. He followed this with a notable second-place finish at the Doha Diamond League, where he surpassed the 90-meter mark for the first time with a throw of 90.23 meters.
Later that month, he secured second place at the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial in Poland and continued his winning streak with consecutive titles at the Paris Diamond League and Ostrava Golden Spike, achieving throws of 88.16 meters and 85.29 meters, respectively.
