Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025 Postponed Amid Rising India-Pakistan Tensions

Event Postponed Due to Security Concerns
New Delhi [India] - The Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025, originally scheduled for May 24 at Bengaluru's Sree Kanteerava Stadium, has been postponed indefinitely due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.
A statement from the NC Classic organizers on social media emphasized, “Given the current circumstances, we have decided to postpone the inaugural NC Classic. This choice was made after thorough consideration, prioritizing the safety of athletes, stakeholders, and the wider community.”
This decision follows the tragic April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, where 26 tourists lost their lives. In response, the Indian Armed Forces initiated 'Operation Sindoor', executing targeted strikes on nine terrorist camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).
In retaliation, Pakistan launched drone attacks, which the Indian Army successfully countered during the night of May 8-9 along the western border and the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir.
Neeraj Chopra expressed solidarity with India during this critical time, stating that supporting the nation is paramount. He assured that a new schedule for the NC Classic will be announced soon.
“We believe in the unifying spirit of sports. However, at this crucial juncture, standing united with our nation is what matters most. Our thoughts and gratitude are with our Armed Forces, who are safeguarding our country. A revised schedule for the NC Classic will be shared in due course. Jai Hind,” he concluded.
Additionally, the ongoing situation has led to the postponement of other events, including the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League, which the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced would be suspended for a week due to the rising tensions.
Neeraj recently faced criticism for inviting Pakistani javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem to the event following the Pahalgam attack. He defended his invitation, clarifying that it was a gesture between athletes and meant nothing more.
