Neeraj Chopra's Quest for Commonwealth Gold

The 2026 Commonwealth Games (CWG) have officially commenced in Glasgow, drawing national attention to Neeraj Chopra. The celebrated Indian athlete is set to compete in the men's javelin event, marking his second appearance at the CWG. At 28 years old, Neeraj is determined to secure his second Commonwealth title, having previously clinched gold at the 2018 Gold Coast Games. Unfortunately, he was unable to defend his title in 2022 due to an injury that sidelined him from the Birmingham edition.

Neeraj's impressive track record includes multiple podium finishes at major international competitions, with two medals each from the Olympics (1 gold, 1 silver), world championships (1 gold, 1 silver), and Asian Games (2 golds). Often hailed as one of India's greatest athletes, he aims to complete his medal collection in Glasgow.

However, Neeraj faces significant challenges as he has been away from competitive action for some time. This event will only be his second of the year, following a break to recover from an injury after last year's world championship, where his streak of top-three finishes ended. He made his return at the Doha Diamond League last month, finishing fourth. The competition will be fierce, featuring world leader Rumesh Tharanga from Sri Lanka, Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem, and former world champions Keshron Walcott and Anderson Peters. Neeraj will be joined by fellow Indians Rohit Yadav and Yash Vir Singh in the event.
