Neeraj Chopra Achieves Historic Milestone at Doha Diamond League

Neeraj Chopra's Remarkable Achievement

On Friday, Neeraj Chopra reached a significant milestone at the Doha Diamond League, a feat that every athlete aspires to achieve. Despite his impressive accolades, including an Olympic gold medal, World Championship titles, and victories at the Commonwealth and Asian Games, one achievement had eluded him until now: throwing the javelin over 90 meters.

Finally, Neeraj accomplished this goal at the Doha Diamond League. He made a strong start with a throw of 88.44 meters in his first attempt, although his second attempt resulted in a foul. However, he made a remarkable comeback in his third attempt, achieving a personal best with a throw of 90.23 meters, setting a new record. Previously, his best throw was 89.94 meters, which he achieved two years ago at the Stockholm Diamond League.

PM Modi Congratulates Neeraj

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations to Neeraj for this achievement. On social media, he expressed, "A fantastic accomplishment! Congratulations to Neeraj Chopra for surpassing the 90-meter mark and achieving his personal best at the Doha Diamond League 2025. This is a result of his relentless dedication, discipline, and passion. India feels proud and joyful."

Despite this outstanding performance, Neeraj finished in second place, with Germany's Julian Weber taking the top spot with a throw of 91.06 meters. According to Olympic.com, Neeraj remarked that the outcome was bittersweet. He stated, "I am happy with the 90 meters, but it is still second place. This has happened to me before in Stockholm, where I threw 89.94 meters and also finished second. Here, I broke the national record but still came in second."

With this performance, Neeraj became the 25th athlete in history to throw the javelin over 90 meters. His achievement ranks as the third-best performance by any Asian athlete, following Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem at 92.97 meters and China's Chao-Tsun Cheng at 91.36 meters.
