The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) has revealed that the upcoming National Open Athletics Championships in Ranchi will play a crucial role in selecting athletes for the 4×100 metres relay at the Asian Games. This prestigious event is scheduled to take place in Nagoya, Japan, starting September 19, 2026.

According to the AFI's announcement, the top six athletes will be chosen based on their finishing positions during the championships. The final two spots on the relay team will be filled based on performances at the National Open Athletics Championships and other competitions throughout the year.

Additionally, the AFI has mandated that all athletes aspiring to join the relay team must compete in the National Inter State meet in Chennai. AFI Secretary General Sandeep Mehta emphasized, "Athletes wishing to be considered for the relay team must participate in the 64th National Open Athletics Championships, which will take place from August 2 to 24, 2025, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Failure to participate will result in disqualification from the relay team selection process."
