Nat Sciver-Brunt Takes Helm as England Women's Cricket Captain
New Leadership for England Women's Cricket
London [UK], April 29: The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has officially appointed Nat Sciver-Brunt as the new captain of the women's national cricket team across all formats.
Since her debut in 2013, Sciver-Brunt has been a crucial player for the team, contributing significantly with both bat and ball, amassing 259 appearances in various formats over the last decade.
Having served as vice-captain to Heather Knight, Sciver-Brunt was a natural choice for the captaincy. She has previously led the team in 11 T20 matches and one ODI, achieving a commendable nine wins in those games, according to ICC records.
This leadership change signals a new chapter for the England women's cricket team, coinciding with a shift in coaching staff. Earlier this year, Jon Lewis stepped down as head coach, with England cricket legend Charlotte Edwards stepping in as his replacement.
The newly formed captain-coach duo will kick off their tenure with a home summer series against the West Indies and India, starting in May, with the first T20I scheduled for May 21. This series will include three T20Is and three ODIs. Their first major challenge will be the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, which is set to be hosted in India later this year.
Upon her appointment, Sciver-Brunt expressed her pride in taking on the captaincy, stating, “It is an honor to be asked by Charlotte [Edwards], someone I have always admired. Since my England debut in 2013, my goal has been to support the team in every possible way. I will strive to lead this team towards success while empowering each player to reach their full potential.”
She added, “We have a talented and united group. I believe in this team and its potential for great success. I am thrilled to collaborate with Charlotte, having enjoyed working with her over the past three years at Mumbai Indians. Her passion for cricket and dedication to the England Women’s team is truly inspiring, and I look forward to seeing where this partnership takes us.”
