Indian heavyweight boxer Narender Berwal shared his feelings of disappointment after narrowly missing out on the gold medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games. However, he remains determined to make a strong comeback at the upcoming Asian Games.

In a closely contested final against his English rival, Berwal expressed that he gave his all but fell short by a slim margin. He also commended the overall performance of the Indian boxing team, expressing optimism that they will build on their success and prepare rigorously for the Asian Games.

Commitment to Excel at the Asian Games

Berwal earned a silver medal in the men's 90+ kg category, finishing second to England's Damar Thomas. Reflecting on his experience, he stated, "I narrowly missed out, but I am focused on making it up at the Asian Games. It was a challenging match, and I lost by a hair's breadth. We performed better than expected, with boxers like Sumit Kundu, Aditya Yadav, Parveen Hooda, and Kapil Pokhariya also losing close 3-2 bouts. We could have potentially secured all 14 medals. Expect great results at the Asian Games; we will prepare thoroughly and give our best."

With Berwal's achievement, India wrapped up its most successful boxing campaign in Commonwealth Games history, securing a remarkable total of 10 medals, including seven gold and three silver.

Berwal's silver medal in the men's 90+ kg boxing event came after a unanimous 5-0 decision loss to Damar Thomas. Despite his valiant effort, he was outperformed by the English boxer, concluding a commendable Commonwealth Games journey.

India topped the boxing medal tally at the Commonwealth Games, achieving a historic record of seven gold and three silver medals, marking its best performance ever in the event.
