Dhir's Remarkable Innings

Naman Dhir, the captain of Amritsar Soormas, expressed that his impressive 173-run innings during the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League match against Mohali Kings was a result of a straightforward strategy: assessing each ball individually. He emphasized that his primary goal was to enhance the team's score rather than chase personal achievements.

Batting first at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali, Dhir scored 173 runs off just 64 deliveries, hitting 16 fours and 12 sixes. This outstanding performance led Amritsar Soormas to a decisive 67-run win over Mohali Kings. His innings brought him close to matching Chris Gayle's T20 record of 175*, the highest individual score in men's T20 cricket.

'Ball-by-Ball' Mindset

In a conversation reflecting on his remarkable innings, Dhir stated that he concentrated on the team's needs rather than his individual score. "I focused on each ball's merit. I wasn't preoccupied with my score. After hitting my first six, I believed that if I could stay at the crease, we could achieve a substantial total. My attention was always on the team," he remarked.

"It was about taking it ball by ball. Once I settled in and began finding the boundaries, I realized it was a special day. However, I aimed to avoid overthinking and just play my shots while remaining present in the moment," he added.

Awareness of the Record

Dhir acknowledged that he became aware of approaching Gayle's record towards the end of his innings but consciously chose not to let it distract him. "I noticed I was getting close, but I didn't want the record to divert my focus. My priority was to score as many runs as I could for the team. Being near a record held by Chris Gayle is indeed a remarkable feeling," he stated.

Strong Partnership with Abhishek Sharma

Dhir also praised his partnership with captain Abhishek Sharma, noting their mutual aggressive style, effective communication, and commitment to maintaining momentum, which puts pressure on the bowlers. "We both prefer to play with intent and challenge the bowlers. There’s a natural synergy between us. We communicate, evaluate the situation, and strive to keep the momentum alive," he explained.

Currently, Amritsar Soormas are positioned second in the Sher-E-Punjab T20 League standings, having achieved four victories and faced three losses in seven matches.
