Mysterious Disappearance of Young Shooter in Kolkata Raises Concerns

Kolkata, July 17: The sports community in West Bengal is in shock following the unexplained disappearance of 15-year-old national level shooter, Damayanti Sen, who went missing from Howrah Station near Kolkata on Thursday afternoon. Despite extensive searches by her family and local authorities, she remained unaccounted for as of Friday morning.

According to the missing person report filed by her parents, Damayanti left her home on Thursday afternoon to buy some household necessities but failed to return. She was reportedly carrying her mobile phone at the time of her departure.

Concerned about her prolonged absence, her family began to search for her, reaching out to friends, shooting colleagues, and relatives for information. After exhausting their efforts, they filed a missing person report at the local police station.

The police promptly initiated an investigation and reviewed CCTV footage from Howrah Station, where Damayanti was last seen moving between platforms four and five.

“That was the last sighting we have, and we are currently trying to determine her next steps from there,” a police officer stated. However, as of Friday morning, there were still no leads on her whereabouts.

Damayanti Sen resides at 30/2, Umacharan Bhattacharjee Lane in Central Howrah. Her family informed the police that since her selection for the national team trials, she had been diligently practicing every morning. They emphasized that there had been no recent conflicts within the family.

The mystery surrounding her disappearance has left her family, friends, and shooting teammates deeply concerned.

This incident is not the first controversy to hit the shooting community in West Bengal. In March of the previous year, the West Bengal Rifle Association (WBRA) suspended Olympian and former Indian rifle coach Joydeep Karmakar due to allegations of corruption he made against the association in a series of social media posts.
