Mumbai's Young Guns to Shine as Star Players Sit Out Vijay Hazare Trophy
Mumbai's Squad Changes for Vijay Hazare Trophy
Mumbai: Key players from India, including Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Suryakumar Yadav, will be absent for at least the initial two matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The selectors are focused on integrating younger talent into the Mumbai lineup.
Ajinkya Rahane and Shivam Dube will also miss these opening games.
"Rohit, Jaiswal, Dube, and even Rahane will not participate in the first two matches as the selection committee is opting for a youthful squad," stated Mumbai's chief selector, Sanjay Patil.
"Yashasvi is currently receiving treatment for a stomach ailment and is expected to recover soon. We believe it’s essential to provide opportunities to the younger players. However, they will be included in the squad as soon as they are available," he added.
"For the first two matches, we are focusing on experimenting with young talent," Patil concluded.
The elite segment of this 50-over tournament is scheduled from December 24 to January 8, taking place in Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Jaipur, and Bengaluru. The knockout rounds will be held at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru from January 12-18.
Mumbai is grouped in Group C alongside Punjab, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Goa, and Himachal Pradesh.
The tournament will kick off for Mumbai against Sikkim on December 24.
