Mumbai Indians Utilize Concussion Substitute in IPL Match Against Gujarat Titans

Concussion Substitute Protocol Activated Again
In a rare occurrence, the concussion substitute rule has been activated for the second time in IPL history during the ongoing Match 56 at Wankhede Stadium, where the Mumbai Indians face off against the Gujarat Titans. The first instance occurred earlier in IPL 2023 when Vishnu Vinod stepped in for Ishan Kishan.
During the final over of Mumbai's innings, South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch was struck on the helmet by a bouncer from GT's Prasidh Krishna, prompting immediate medical evaluation. Following the concussion protocol, Bosch was cleared to continue but was run out on the very next delivery, concluding his innings with 27 runs off 22 balls.

In the subsequent innings, MI was permitted to replace Bosch with left-arm seamer Ashwani Kumar, adhering to the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) regulations for IPL 2025.
"A like-for-like replacement can be chosen from the nominated substitutes in case of a concussion. If a wicketkeeper sustains a concussion, the replacement can be selected from the available squad. If an overseas player suffers a concussion and the team has already used its four overseas slots, the replacement must be an Indian player from the substitutes."

Interestingly, both instances of concussion substitutes have involved the same two teams, with the Mumbai Indians needing to activate the rule due to player injuries.
