Mumbai Indians Shake Up Coaching Staff Ahead of IPL 2027
Major Changes in Mumbai Indians Coaching Team
Mumbai: The Mumbai Indians have officially announced the departure of their bowling coaches, Lasith Malinga and Paras Mhambrey, along with fielding coach Carl Hopkinson, as they prepare for IPL 2027.
This significant change reflects a complete restructuring of the coaching team, especially following the recent appointment of Kieron Pollard as the new head coach, replacing Mahela Jayawardene.
In a statement, the Mumbai Indians expressed gratitude towards Malinga, Mhambrey, and Hopkinson for their dedication and contributions to the team.
Lasith Malinga, a former Sri Lankan fast bowler, has had a long-standing relationship with the franchise, initially as a player and later as a coach.
The franchise acknowledged Malinga's vital role in their history, highlighting his contributions to four IPL championships and the 2011 Champions League T20 win.
Paras Mhambrey joined the Mumbai Indians' coaching staff after his tenure with the Indian national team ended in October 2024.
The franchise noted Mhambrey's extensive experience and his deep understanding of the Mumbai Indians' culture, having been associated with the team from 2010 to 2017 and returning in 2024.
Carl Hopkinson, who took over as fielding coach before IPL 2025, brought valuable international experience from his time with the England men's team, and his efforts to enhance the team's fielding standards were greatly appreciated.
