Mumbai Indians Begin Preparations for WPL 2026


Mumbai: The Mumbai Indians (MI), champions twice, have officially launched their training camp in preparation for the upcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL) season. The fourth edition of the WPL is set to unfold at two locations: the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai and the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara, running from January 9 to February 5.


Led by Head Coach Lisa Keightley, along with Bowling Coach and Team Mentor Jhulan Goswami and Batting Coach Devieka Palshikaar, the squad has welcomed players such as Saika Ishaque, Sajana S, Sanskriti Gupta, Poonam Khemnar, Triveni Vasistha, N Kranthi Reddy, and Rahila Firdous, who have commenced their pre-season training.


Keightley expressed her enthusiasm about the camp, stating, "It’s really good. We’ve had one training session, and it was fantastic to collaborate with domestic players. I’m eager to see their potential. This is a great chance to observe, engage, and build connections with the players. I’m genuinely excited and impressed with what I’ve witnessed so far. Let’s see how the rest of the week unfolds."


The training sessions focused on fitness, skill assessment, and fostering team unity, allowing players to reconnect with their match routines under the guidance of the coaching staff. Through a mix of structured drills and net practice, the team is laying a solid foundation for the weeks ahead, gaining momentum and enhancing team cohesion as the season approaches.


The defending champions will commence their tournament journey on January 9, 2026, facing the WPL 2024 champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.


After three seasons of the WPL, the Mumbai Indians have established themselves as the most successful franchise, clinching victory in both the inaugural and third editions of the tournament. With Harmanpreet Kaur at the helm, they are determined to defend their title as the WPL draws near.
