On March 8, Mumbai will celebrate International Women’s Day by hosting the Queens On Courts Women’s Day Tournament, a PWR 200 event recognized by the Indian Pickleball Association and the Maharashtra Pickleball Association. This tournament, taking place at the Andheri Sports Complex, boasts a prize pool of up to Rs 1.75 lakh and aims to attract women players from various competitive categories.
The event is designed to showcase the increasing involvement of women in pickleball, a sport that has been gaining popularity throughout India in recent years. Currently, registrations are open, and the final participant count is yet to be determined. The competition schedule is provisional and may be modified based on the number of entries received.
Categories planned for the tournament include Women’s Doubles Beginners, Women’s Doubles Intermediate, and Women’s Doubles Open. Additionally, age-group divisions such as 30+ Women’s Doubles Open, Split Age 35+, and 50+ Women’s Doubles Open are anticipated, providing a platform for players of varying ages and skill levels to compete.
Such initiatives aim to create a more organized competitive environment for women in the sport. Events like Queens On Courts are crucial for expanding opportunities for female athletes and enhancing the overall competitive landscape.
