Mukesh Kumar Penalized for Code of Conduct Breach

Delhi Capitals' bowler Mukesh Kumar has been penalized 10% of his match fees and received one demerit point for violating the IPL Code of Conduct following a disappointing 59-run loss to the Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium. This defeat has eliminated Delhi Capitals from playoff contention, while Mumbai has secured its place in the IPL 2025 playoffs.

Details of the Fine and Offense

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) classified Mukesh Kumar's actions as a Level 1 offense under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which pertains to the misuse or abuse of cricket equipment or ground fixtures. His visible frustration during the match led to this decision.

According to an official statement from the IPL, "Mukesh Kumar acknowledged the Level 1 offense under Article 2.2 (Abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a Match) and accepted the Match Referee’s penalty."

Delhi Capitals Eliminated from Playoffs

In their match, Delhi Capitals were chasing a target of 181 runs but suffered a dramatic batting collapse, finishing their innings at just 121 runs. Remarkably, they became the first team to miss the playoffs despite winning their first four matches of the season.

The batting performance was lackluster, with Sameer Rizvi (39) and Ashutosh Sharma (18) attempting to form a partnership, but Mitchell Santner quickly disrupted their efforts. Mukesh Kumar was the standout bowler for DC, taking two wickets.

Mukesh Kumar's Bowling Performance Against MI

In the match against Mumbai, Mukesh Kumar claimed two wickets with bowling figures of 2/48. However, his final over was particularly expensive, as he allowed several boundaries from Naman Dhir, who hit two fours and two sixes. Mumbai finished their innings at 180/5, leaving Delhi Capitals struggling on the challenging Wankhede pitch.
