The iconic wicketkeeper-batter has been sidelined for over two weeks due to a calf strain he incurred before CSK's opening match against the Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati. Dhoni did not accompany the team for their matches against the RR and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, opting to remain in Chennai for rehabilitation.

Despite traveling to Hyderabad with hopes of playing against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Dhoni remained on the bench due to his ongoing calf issue.

During a press conference prior to the match, CSK's bowling coach Eric Simmons addressed inquiries about Dhoni's potential comeback, stating that the wicketkeeper will only return when he feels fit and receives clearance from the medical team.

Simmons remarked, "MS will only play when he feels he is ready to go and the medical team clears him, so I am not going to make any announcement sitting here."
