MS Dhoni's Uncertain Return Ahead of CSK vs MI IPL 2026 Clash
Dhoni's Injury Update
As the Chennai Super Kings gear up for their IPL 2026 match against the Mumbai Indians, questions arise regarding MS Dhoni's availability for the game scheduled at Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, April 23.
The iconic wicketkeeper-batter has been sidelined for over two weeks due to a calf strain he incurred before CSK's opening match against the Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati. Dhoni did not accompany the team for their matches against the RR and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, opting to remain in Chennai for rehabilitation.
Despite traveling to Hyderabad with hopes of playing against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Dhoni remained on the bench due to his ongoing calf issue.
Awaiting Dhoni's Return
As CSK prepares for the match against MI, fans are eager for news about Dhoni's return, especially after nearly a month into IPL 2026. Supporters are looking for an official update from the team regarding his recovery.
During a press conference prior to the match, CSK's bowling coach Eric Simmons addressed inquiries about Dhoni's potential comeback, stating that the wicketkeeper will only return when he feels fit and receives clearance from the medical team.
Simmons remarked, "MS will only play when he feels he is ready to go and the medical team clears him, so I am not going to make any announcement sitting here."
CSK's Performance Without Dhoni
Dhoni's absence has extended beyond two weeks, during which CSK has played six matches, achieving only two victories and facing four defeats. This marks the longest stretch without Dhoni since the tournament's inception in 2008, raising further concerns about his participation in the crucial match against MI.
Crucial Match for CSK
Chennai Super Kings are approaching their highly anticipated match against Mumbai Indians with the objective of making a strong comeback, as the first half of IPL 2026 nears its end and the playoff race intensifies.
Under the leadership of Ruturaj Gaikwad, CSK started the season poorly, losing their first three matches against Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, putting them under early pressure in their pursuit of a record sixth IPL title. However, they managed to bounce back with consecutive wins against Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals, securing four points.
Unfortunately, CSK faced another setback with a loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad, highlighting their inconsistency as they strive for stability in the competitive IPL 2026 season.
Currently, CSK holds the eighth position with four points from two wins and four losses, along with a net run rate (NRR) of -0.780 after six matches. The upcoming game against Mumbai Indians and the remaining seven matches are vital for CSK, as they need to improve their form to enhance their chances of making the playoffs.
